55n3

04 November, 2009

I ran across a forum posting extolling the virtues of using HO gauge trackage as 3 feet between the rails. A number of people have done this before (myself, Bill Williams and some guy in England who got a lot of my old stuff).

A website has been set up (http://www.55n3.org/) about it. When I read the forum posting, I was pleasantly surprised that someone had resurrected the old scale. It is one I was considering, but am stuck with all that Peco On30 trackage - unless I dump it, but then I'm spending inordinate amounts of time trying to get American profile code 70 rail in England.

But I will stay to the concept as planned. No way am I going back to straight edged layouts.

One good thing about this scale is you get more to the square inch than O Scale. A lot of stuff can be used as basis (Sn3, HO, some On30 items and the rest you scratchbuild).

Some images of the old models can be seen here.
